Abolish Alimony Amendment Proposal Is Getting Noticed
Sebastian, FL September 23, 2004 — The Abolish Alimony Florida Constitutional Amendment proposal continues to gather momentum.
“The rapid rate of interest by the public and the press has surprised us. We have been getting support even from people outside the state of
Florida.” says Robert Sell, Chairman of the Citizens for Liberty and Privacy.
The proposed Amendment would abolish alimony in conjunction with dissolution of marriage. The goal is to give all Floridians an equal
opportunity to move on in their lives when they make a decision to dissolve their marriage.
The current dissolution laws, particularly with alimony, deplete the precious limited resources of many Floridians in the dissolution process.
Their limited assets are transferred to the legal machinery instead of to each other or their children.
“This constitutional amendment will afford protection to the growing number of women in the work force as the rate of two-earner families
continues to increase. This includes women who work or who have husbands that make less than they do and are therefore at risk of paying alimony.”
“All Floridians will be protected from the ravages of the dissolution process. The hurt incurred in the process will have finality. The
incentives for parties and their attorney to perpetuate the dissolution process will end.” All these goals can be reached with the abolish alimony amendment says Sell.
The abolish alimony amendment will afford the economic factors at play in the lives of all Floridians much stronger protection as well as reaffirm the numerous constitutional rights being violated by alimony laws.
According to Sell, other groups around the country are looking at this Florida initiative as a way to better the lives of citizens and minimize the extensive intrusion into the private details of marriage caused by dissolution statutes across the country.
