New Cowboy Cookbook Released For America’s Millions of Rodeo Fans
July, 2003 — “Rodeos and Recipes - Real Stories and Delicious Recipes Even A Cowgirl Can Cook!” is a newly released book by author Emma Carpenter. It is Mrs. Carpenter’s second book about rodeo, and is delightful reading about rodeo life from the behind-the-scenes perspective of a chute hand. The book is in the format of a ‘cowboy cookbook,’ and also contains recipes chosen by Mrs. Carpenter to be easy, delicious, hearty, and fast.
Mrs. Carpenter says she chose to put the stories in ‘cowboy cookbook’ format because of how popular that style is. A ‘cowboy cookbook’, she explained, has a story followed by a recipe, then another story followed by another recipe, and so on. “Rodeos and Recipes” contains a wide assortment of stories from Carpenter Rodeo Company’s 40-plus year history.
The fact that Mrs. Carpenter doesn’t consider herself a cook didn’t deter her. “When I decided to use this format I chose recipes that anyone can make and that can be made and frozen during the week then cooked and served when you get home from rodeoing late on Sunday.” Some of the best recipes, according to Mrs. Carpenter, are the ones not intended to be eaten, such as “Skull Cleaning In A Hurry” for cleaning and whitening the bone of decorative cattle skulls.
The book is widely available on the web at Barnes and Noble (www.bn.com), Amazon (www.amazon.com) and the author’s own website, Rodeos and Recipes (www.rodeosandrecipes.com). In addition, copies are available directly from the publisher by calling 240-529-1031. The book should also be available at your local bookstore. If it isn’t on the shelf yet, Mrs. Carpenter says to be sure to ask for it because bookstores should have no trouble getting a supply.
