Summer Technology Camps Scheduled GLOBAL LEADER IN CHILDRENS COMPUTER CLASSES LAUNCHES SERIES OF ROBOTICS AND TECHNOLOGY CAMPS

Houston, Texas June 8, 2004 -? Imagine children being given a box of LEGO? parts and the task of inventing a robot.

That?s but only part of the summer technology challenge that Kay Shakespeare?s COMPUTERTOTS/COMPUTER EXPLORERS? program is offering families in the NW Houston area.

Robotics and Junior Engineering five-day summer camps will be available from June to early August at Victory Christian Academy, Cutten Road, Houston, TX 77066. Shakespeare?s camps were recently featured on TV during the WB39 news program and include the following themes:
?
Roamer the Robot?Children learn how to ?talk? to a robot and get it to follow their commands. Roamer will be programmed to draw shapes and play games.
?
Junior Engineering-Simple Machines? After guided exploration to understand basic concepts, children will be challenged to ?build something cool? that moves. This course introduces LEGO? component parts and how they can be used to make several simple motorized machines.
?
Amusement Park Robotics?Children learn how to build an amusement park using Lego robotics. Campers can make their very own bumper cars, roller coasters, and other rides.
?
007 Secret Agent Camp?A series of robots called Spybots are used to solve a number of high-tech crimes and solve secret spy cases. Children learn to train their robot to be the best detective ever.

Under the instruction of COMPUTERTOT/COMPUTER EXPLORERS teachers, campers will work on robotics and engineering projects in small groups in order to guarantee involvement and team-work. All camps are educational and have specialized reinforcement in math and science. All-day camps are also available, and the latest addition to the portfolio is Team Camps where a team can register a number of participants for specially constructed team building camps.

Robotics and Engineering classes will be offered at after-school programs in area public and private schools in the fall.
